CRAFTED at Museum Pier: Thai Art, Public Viewing and a November Auction

CRAFTED opens at Museum Pier on 31 October and continues until 8 November 2026, giving Bangkok visitors a public viewing period ahead of an art auction. The Art Auction Center presents a selection of 149 works, with established figures in Thai art appearing alongside artists whose work belongs to a more recent visual culture. Admission to the exhibition is free.

The venue's own announcement confirms viewing hours of 10:00–18:00. On the final Sunday, 8 November, the auction begins at 14:00. These are two different parts of the programme: looking at the exhibition does not require an intention to buy, while participation in the sale involves arrangements with the auction organiser.

A collection that crosses generations

Museum Pier names Thawan Duchanee, Silpa Bhirasri, Chakrabhand Posayakrit, Pratuang Emjaroen, Chalermchai Kositpipat, Princess Marsi Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Natee Utarit, Alex Face and SUNTUR among the artists represented. That range offers a reason to approach CRAFTED as a viewing opportunity as well as a sale preview.

An auction selection is assembled around individual works available for sale. Visitors can therefore make their own comparisons rather than expecting the continuous historical narrative of a museum collection. Look for connections between a work's materials, its date and the way it directs attention. A painted surface and a carved one can depict movement through very different means; a densely constructed scene and a sparse landscape may also ask for different viewing distances.

Six works to look for

The organiser's exhibition release identifies several particular highlights. Thawan Duchanee's 1971 painting Phaya Pali Prap Torapi depicts a battle from the Ramakien. The release also includes a late work by Sompote Upa-In, whose female figure and unusual anatomy introduce another approach to depicting the body. Neither artist needs to be reduced to a single label for these works to reward comparison.

Prayat Pongdam's Chicken Fight, dated 2004, is especially useful for thinking about the boundary between carving and painting. The described object is an engraved wooden block with painted colour and gold leaf, rather than an ordinary paper print. Chalermchai Kositpipat's Miraculous Vehicles, from 1992, brings a different relationship between image and spiritual meaning into the selection.

Princess Marsi's Untitled from 1969 and SUNTUR's New Things Happen When We Move On from 2024 extend the comparison across more than five decades. Begin with the balance between figures and their surroundings, then consider what the title changes about your reading. You need not know an artist's entire career to ask how much of a painting's emotional effect comes from scale, placement, colour or the spaces between its subjects.

Coffee characters and a charity sale

Bangkok Art City's organiser-supplied announcement adds another strand: the WHEN COFFEE MEETS ART collection by BENZILLA. Seven characters follow stages of coffee's journey, linking the exhibition with a familiar daily ritual through character design.

The set of seven is offered in a charity auction. The announcement says the proceeds support renovation of public playgrounds for children and families, with no auction fees for that set. This specific arrangement concerns the BENZILLA charity collection; it should not be read as a statement that the proceeds from every work in CRAFTED go to charity.

Practical details for a visit

Museum Pier is at 166 Tha Suphan Alley in Phra Nakhon, Bangkok. The exhibition runs from Saturday 31 October through Sunday 8 November 2026, with daily viewing from 10:00 to 18:00 according to the venue's event page. Use those event-specific hours when planning your arrival. MRT Sanam Chai is the station identified in the Bangkok Art City venue information.

Visitors interested in bidding should contact The Art Auction Center before the sale for registration, conditions and viewing arrangements. Exhibition admission and auction participation are separate questions. For a viewing visit, checking the official programme again near your chosen day is particularly useful on 8 November, when the afternoon auction forms part of the schedule.
